OTL AFRICA 2023 DOWNSTREAM WEEK.
OPAC REFINERIES had an engaging discussion on the topic “Africa Refining: Regional Sufficiency Amid Global Energy Transition” at the OTL AFRICA 2023 DOWNSTREAM WEEK held from 23rd -26th , October 2023.
The Panel had, Mr. Aliyu Suleiman, Group Chief Strategist officer, Dangote Group, Mr temitop Ogunbanjo, GM Aradel Refinery, Dr. Francis Ogaree, ED Hydrocarbon Processing Plants, Installations and Transportation, NMDPRA, Mr. Anibor Kragha, Executive Secretary, Africa Refiners and Distributors Association, Mr. Momoh Oyarekhua, President Crude Oil refinery-Owners Association of Nigeria/ Chairman OPAC Refineries, Mr. Alex Osho, COO Waltersmith Group, Maryto Mendez, Refining & Refined Products Senior Research Analyst Vitol.
Mr. Oyarekhua highlighted the need for the government’s unwavering support to private refineries in Nigeria in order to reduce the current pressure in the foreign exchange market, make high-quality refined products available, lessen crude oil theft given that private modular refineries are co-located close to crude oil well-heads, hence, lower the country’s dependence on imported petroleum products. Over time, the country will become self-sufficient and a hub for the export of refined petroleum products.
